During its 40th annual Business and Humanitarian Awards, the Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) recognized Symetra Life Insurance Company as the 2020 Corporate Leader of the Year.

The Business and Humanitarian Awards spotlights business leaders who have shown outstanding community engagement, leadership, and diversity within the workplace. Mark Rosén, acting president & CEO of GSBA, recognized Symetra as an organization that “[served] our community during a global pandemic and financial crisis, stood up against systemic racial injustice, and served as an example of what it looks like when businesses ‘walk the walk.’”

Symetra partnered with local restaurants through its Care and Feeding program to deliver nearly 20,000 meals to frontline workers. It also launched the Symetra Empowers Communities program and set company-wide guidelines on its commitment to advance racial equity in the workplace.

GSBA is Washington State’s LGBTQ and allied chamber of commerce and seeks to unite communities through business while advocating for civil rights, promoting LGBTQ tourism through Travel Out Seattle, and investing in the next generation of leaders through the GSBA Scholarship Fund.

“Symetra is incredibly proud to receive this acknowledgment from the GSBA, which is all the more meaningful because of our shared commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Trinity Parker, senior vice president of marketing communications & public affairs, in a press release. “Working with partners like the GSBA, our goal is to help build resilient and robust community support systems with a focus on BIPOC communities, women, and at-risk youth.”
