Washington is the best state for teachers, according to a report on “2020’s Best & Worst States for Teachers” released by personal finance website WalletHub.

In order to determine which parts of the United States were most teacher-friendly, WalletHub analyzed the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key metrics, ranging from teachers’ income growth potential to the pupil-teacher ratio to whether the state has a digital learning plan.

According to the findings, Washington ranked No. 1 as the overall best state for teachers. More specifically, the state ranked as follows:

1st — 10-year change in teacher salaries
1st — Existence of a digital learning plan
5th — Average salary (adjusted for cost of living)
8th — Average starting salary (adjusted for cost of living)
9th – Statewide school reopening
14th – Public-school spending per student
14th – Projected competition in 2028
21st – School system quality
