Higher paying tech jobs and Fortune 500 companies like Amazon, Starbucks, and Microsoft are attracting a growing number of millennials to the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area, according to life insurance agency Haven Life.

“Although it is one of the more expensive metro areas, Seattle lures millennials with higher paying jobs, especially in the tech sector. The median earnings for full-time working millennials is over $52,000 per year, and millennial families can save a lot by not paying any state income tax,” the agency stated.

In fact, the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area had the second largest percentage increase in millennials of any large metro from 2012 to 2017, coming in at 22.2 percent. Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro took the lead at 22.8 percent.

Where are millennials moving from? According to Haven Life’s analysis, Tucson, Arizona, (down 13.3 percent) and Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, Virginia (down 6.6 percent) are seeing the greatest declines in millennials.
