When visiting John Howie’s new restaurant/bar concept, Whiskey, the name says it all; with a selection ranging in the hundreds, what to choose? Tim Lodahl, Whiskey’s in-house curator, recommends “Smell the Roses.” It’s one of the eatery’s signature cocktails. It features Four Roses Bourbon, a popular Kentucky-made legacy bourbon with a nicely balanced flavor fit for sipping straight or as a mixer, and a nutty, grain-sweet, almost floral aroma. The Smell the Roses recipe also includes Rémy Martin Tercet Cognac, Amaro Nonino, Cynar, Giff ard Vanille de Madagascar, and chocolate walnut bitters. The complex flavors produce notes of eucalyptus, baking spices, caramel, and pine, with a chocolate, orange, and vanilla finish on the palate. Whether you consider yourself a whiskey connoisseur or new to the spirit, it’s a satisfying cocktail to mark the end of a long day. Pairing nicely with sweet or savory, Smell the Roses complements Whiskey’s hearty BBQ brisket flatbread or its bourbon caramel popcorn. Whiskey’s hours should continue to expand; call to get the latest updates and for making reservations: (425) 440-0880.
