The first of two popular Eastside park-and-ride lots will close next month to allow for the construction of Sound Transit’s $3.7 billion East Link Light Rail extension project connecting Seattle to Mercer Island, Bellevue, and Redmond.
The Overlake Transit Center Park-and-Ride, located at NE 40th Street and 156th Avenue NE and offering 222 parking spaces, will close on May 1.
If you regularly use the park-and-ride lot, you will need to park in other locations. Sound Transit officials encourage you to begin using alternate parking or commute options before the park-and-ride lot closes. A temporary park-and-ride lot will be established at Holy Trinity Church, located at 17371 NE 24th Street, in Redmond. The site will offer 17 parking spaces and operate between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. A map of newly added park-and-ride spaces in the area is available online.
Overlake Transit Center will continue to operate bus and shuttle service during construction.
A new 320-stall parking garage will be built at the Overlake Transit Center, and the location will also serve as the construction hub for building the future Redmond Technology Center light rail station. While construction of the future Redmond Technology Center Station will continue until 2023, Sound Transit and its contractor expect to open the new garage earlier.
The South Bellevue Park-and-Ride, located at 2700 Bellevue Way SE and offering 519 parking spaces, will close on May 30.
