Sore throat? Bad cough? For those who live and work in Bellevue’s downtown district, treatment just became a little more convenient.
Overlake Medical Center opened its third urgent care facility in downtown Bellevue on Jan. 19. at 400 108th Avenue Northeast. The 6,000-square-foot center is located in the same building as Overlake’s Bellevue primary care clinic. The clinic and urgent care center share the reception area.
An open house celebrated the new urgent care office on Feb. 5. The public was treated to smoothies, giveaways, and tours of the new facility. Approximately 17,700 postcard invitations were mailed to the public, says Kelly Blake, an Overlake Hospital Medical Center spokesperson.
Catering to the growing downtown workforce, Bellevue’s Urgent Care Center provides a convenient location to treat urgent, but not life-threatening, health conditions.
The co-pay for a visit to the urgent care center is usually significantly less than it is at emergency rooms, and the wait time is shorter.
Primary care patients who are unable to see their regular doctor for same-day appointments are now able to come without an appointment and be seen by a physician on the urgent care side. This offers continuity of care, as all patients’ records are housed in Overlake’s main computer system.
In addition to regular health care services, the urgent care center offers screenings and labs, immunizations, and some imaging services. The urgent care center expands on services performed at the clinic, including annual exams, routine woman’s care and chronic disease management. Physicians have experience treating acute and chronic conditions, such as broken bones, diabetes, anemia and cardiovascular disease.
There are two full-time physicians on staff, as well as physician assistants who are trained to treat a number of ailments, though there are times when emergency rooms offer the only available treatment.
“You can receive a fair number of services in an urgent care,” says Dr. Alex De Moraes, associate medical director for Overlake Medical Clinic Downtown Bellevue. “But it is limited.”
De Moraes expects many members of the downtown district’s growing workforce will take advantage of the convenient urgent care location.
Rather than investing in a new downtown site, Overlake opted to remodel its existing facility to accommodate both the primary and urgent care centers under one roof. The former primary care office is now divided in half so one side features primary care and the other is dedicated to urgent care use.
The rooms can be shared when necessary, which is an efficient use of space, Blake says.
The company also has urgent care centers in Issaquah and Redmond. The Issaquah urgent care center also is housed in a primary care facility.
The Bellevue Urgent Care Center is open from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. No appointments are needed and walk-ins are welcome. The phone number of the urgent care center is 425-635-6550.
