The unveiling of 425 Business’ December cover, which had been cloaked on the Bellevue Club stage throughout the evening, made obvious what had just been announced over the microphone: BECU’s president and CEO Benson Porter was the winner of the Leader of the Year trophy at the fourth-annual IDEA Awards event in November.

The Aberdeen-born Porter, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the financial industry, thanked several people, including his team, which he said deserves the award more than he does.

Other winners included Funko for Best Office Space; SanMar Corporation for Best Legacy Business; Quris (a product of Bellevue-based Tactuum) for Most Innovative; and Mox Boarding House for Most Philanthropic.

Jedidiah Collins, a former NFL fullback and current director of financial education for Brighton Jones, delivered the evening’s keynote. The event was emceed by editor in chief Jeff Burlingame and event sponsors included Heritage Bank, Knobbe Martens, Bellevue Club, Taco Time Northwest, JPC Architects, Coat Check Complete, and MadCap Marketing.
