On June 18, representatives from 40 local companies gathered in Bellevue for a consultant outreach and networking event designed for small and disadvantaged businesses. The event was hosted by HNTB Corporations, an infrastructure solutions firm, in an effort to identify and develop partnerships with historically underutilized businesses on future infrastructure projects across the state.
The event also helped connect small businesses with public agencies such as the Port of Seattle, Seattle Department of Transportation, and Sound Transit. These larger companies spoke on areas where additional help will be needed for upcoming projects in areas like architecture, roadway and highway structures, aviation, and environmental work.
One of the main themes for the event was to discuss the importance of diverse business interests in future programs. HNTB’s Vice President of Seattle offices Kevin Collins said in a statement, “While we’re actively embracing efforts to incorporate diversity and inclusiveness into our business practices, we’re also pursuing opportunities to help partner firms thrive. Those involved in planning, designing and constructing infrastructure solutions should reflect the communities in which we live and work.”
