Redmond is partnering with King County Metro to pilot a new program that will make finding a carpool as easy as checking your smartphone.
Commuters in southeast Redmond or Willows Road can take advantage of bonus Rideshareonline.com and Go Redmond rewards by using mobile app iCarpool, which organizes carpools without commitments or schedules. Just post your trip on the app an hour before leaving and pick up fellow riders on the way. You’ll be reimbursed 17 cents per mile. Using it as a rider? Carpools are $1.50 for the first five miles and then 26 cents per additional mile.
In the interest of safety, drivers are pre-screened by iCarpool, and drivers and riders have the option to view each other’s profiles before agreeing to the match.
To get started, download iCarpool. First-timers will receive $25 in ride credits just for signing up. You can register as either a driver or a rider. Drivers will need to fill out a Driver Application Form.
Additional rewards are $100 for drivers and up to $75 for riders who use the app in Redmond. Redmond riders who link to their RideshareOnline.com account can enroll in the Emergency Ride Home program and earn eight free rides home from Uber or Lyft.
