Bellevue-based Guidant Financial set out to make 2015 a record-breaking year, and it reached its goal of investing $350 million in small businesses with an entire month to spare. The financing firm has helped entrepreneurs receive more than $371 million as of Dec. 16.

“We knew reaching the $350 million mark was an aggressive goal when we set it early this year, and certainly a big jump from the $290 million mark we hit in 2014,” said Guidant CEO David Nilssen. “We live and breathe small business and wanted to showcase how much capital is injected into the economy as a result of our team’s effort. It’s exciting to say we helped entrepreneurs deploy $350 million, but what impresses me more is our clients’ entrepreneurial spirit. We’re thrilled to support them and honored to play a role in growing the small business engine of America.”

Guidant provides different types of financing for small businesses around the country, including SBA loans, portfolio loans, unsecured loans, and business financing through IRAs or 401(k)s.

A good deal of funding on the Eastside is directed toward tech startups. Though less trendy than tech, small businesses — retail storefronts, restaurants, bars, and professional services — also are looking to scale products and offerings, grow a customer base, and increase revenues. Guidant can help connect entrepreneurs with secure funding to make that happen.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. Our clients alone have invested billions of dollars into starting new businesses, which directly injects capital into our economy,” Nilssen said. “We do serve a number of technology clients, but we don’t want to limit our work to the tech sector because there are incredible business opportunities across many industries.”

In addition to exceeding its investment goal, Guidant is growing its staff and team members. Recently, Devin Miller joined the company as executive vice president, and Jen Dai joined the team as the new HR business partner. To accomodate its growing team, the company moved to a larger office in Bellevue at 1100 112th Ave. NE.
