The next wave of wireless technology, 5G service, was the theme of the 2019 Eastside Leadership Conference. Hosted by the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce at the Microsoft Conference Center in Redmond last month, the conference gathered more than 300 business, government, and nonprofit representatives together to learn about the importance of 5G technology and how it can be implemented in the Greater Eastside.
Conference speakers included Vice President and General Manager for AT&T in the Pacific Northwest, Morgan Collins; Chief Technology Officer for Nokia, Mike Murphy; and Senior Director of Business Development for Internet of Things, Avijit Sinha. Speakers zeroed in on the importance of implementing 5G technology across business sectors – in virtual and augmented reality, transportation, retail, healthcare, and more.
The Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, along with the City of Bellevue and various wireless service providers, has an existing collaboration to create regulatory changes that has already led to a small cell technology deployment. This example was used as a model for establishing 5G technology throughout the region.
Attendees and organizers are hopeful that by the time the 2020 Eastside Leadership Conference arrives, there will be substantial evidence of the arrival of 5G technology in the community.
