Not sure how to ask your boss for a raise or quiet your chatty coworker? Etiquette expert Arden Clise is here to answer your awkward workplace questions.
Q: My coworker is constantly getting alerts and notifications on his phone, and it’s distracting. What should I do?
A: It is annoying when people don’t mind their digital devices. It’s perfectly acceptable to ask Beeping Bob to silence his phone. When you get a private moment with him, tell him you’re having a hard time concentrating because of all of the notification noises his phone makes. Ask him if he would mind turning the sound off or to vibrate so it doesn’t disturb you when he gets alerts. If you say it nicely, he should be understanding.
