A few months ago, New York Times street style photographer Bill Cunningham did a piece on menswear. “Something is going on with men’s clothing,” he said. “I’m now seeing a sartorial splendor that goes right to the details of men in tailored clothes and suits.” It’s an exciting time, especially for business men. Tailored suits with detailed embellishments are at the center of men’s design. There’s no better time to wear something sharp to the office. As the clouds roll in and the temperature starts to drop, here are some winter finds for your workwear wardrobe.

1.) The Power of a Three Piece Suit

A three piece suit is a classic. Like Sean Connery in Goldfinger classic. But, it’s too hot to wear a three piece anything in summer. Winter is the time to break out your finest vests. Todd Snyder recently launched his white label at Nordstrom (pictured above) where you can buy a beautiful, tailored three piece suit.

2.) A Sweater for Your Suit

With menswear it’s all about layering prints, colors and textures. Take your favorite suit and wear a cardigan under the jacket on a cold day.  This navy cardigan from Suitsupply is $89. The suit is $499.

3.) A Bag that Can Handle the Weather

When you’re running to the office in the middle of a hailstorm your mind should be on making it to the door not whether your briefcase is getting ruined. This Filson “incredibly durable” Leather Field Satchel is made with saddle-grade Bridle Leather (sourced for the US) that apparently takes 10 years to break in. They call the top half the “storm flap.” It’s $890 and also comes in brown.

4.) A Double Breasted Peacoat will Never Fail You

If you’re trying to stick with the whole tailored thing, a peacoat is a safe choice. This blue one from Suitsupply is tailored slim and made of pure Interspra wool. We like it because the buttons are just the right size. It is $469.

5.) Simplicity at Its Finest

Save the neon colors and flashy logos for your tennis shoes, simplicity reigns supreme when it comes to professional footwear. These Tom Ford boots are made from calfskin leather and have a side zip. They’re $1,960 but will last you forever and will never, ever go out of style. Available at Neiman Marcus at The Shops at The Bravern.

6.) An Umbrella You can Count On

Most people don’t use umbrella up here. But style has nothing to do with what everybody else is doing. It’s all about you. An umbrella is not only a great accessory for the Northwest, it’s a stylish one. This Davek Elite Cane Umbrella ($149) is a classic cane umbrella with a flexible wind-tension frame for windy storms. It’s available at Neiman Marcus at The Shops at The Bravern.

7.) It’s all in the Details

Simple is great. But dressing up a simple suit is even better. This winter add a little color with a fun pocket square ($45), patterned gloves ($119) and brightly colored socks ($59 for a handpicked pack of five). All available at Suitsupply.

8.) Fashionable Tech Accessories

Earmuffs? Not the most professional. But cherry wood headphones? Why not! These high-quality LSTN headphones will keep your ears warm and add to your outfit. Plus, for every pair sold LSTN will help restore hearing to someone in need. They’re $150 and available at Nordstrom.
